The motorcoach trip from Whittier to Denali Park is an all day adventure that covers 300 miles and features travel through North America’s longest tunnel, travel on three Alaskan Highways, and involves one bus transfer. Depart Whittier through the 2.5 mile Anton Anderson Memorial tunnel through the Chugach Mountains. Enjoy the glacier views as you travel through Portage Valley to the Seward Highway. This scenic highway follows the Turnagain Arm all the way to Anchorage. Watch for eagles and the Dall sheep that can sometimes be seen on the rocky slopes of the Chugach Mountains. Arrive at the Dena'ina Civic Center about noon and identify your luggage that will be transferred to the Denali bound motorcoach. You will have time for lunch on your own in downtown Anchorage before your journey to Denali continues. The next thirty-five miles travels the Glenn Highway, the only road that heads north out of Anchorage. Travel past Eagle River and the Palmer flats before merging onto the Parks Highway. The highway passes right through the town of Wasilla before narrowing to two lanes. If the weather permits, you will enjoy views of Mt. Denali while the motorcoach makes a brief stop at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. The final leg of your trip between Talkeetna and Denali travels about 150 miles and takes just under three hours. The bus continues north through Denali State Park which borders the highway between the Talkeetna Mountains and the Alaska Range. About two hours out of Talkeetna, you will travel through Broad Pass, elevation 2400 feet. This wide mountain valley is one of the most beautiful spots on this highway. You will pass the town of Cantwell before you arrive into the Denali Park area.
The Park Connection bus line operates the transfer between Whittier and Denali only on designated cruise ship days.
