Bus Talkeetna to Whittier
The motorcoach trip from Talkeetna to Whittier is a nearly 200 mile journey that takes you through Anchorage, includes one bus transfer and concludes with travel through a 2.5 mile tunnel. The motorcoach travels south on the Parks Highway, past Wasilla, the largest community in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Merge onto the Glenn Highway and take in views of Pioneer Peak and the Chugach mountains as you follow this road directly into downtown Anchorage. Upon arrival in Anchorage, you will identify your luggage to be transferred to the Whittier motorcoach and then enjoy a lunch break on your own at the Dena'ina Civic Center before starting the final leg of the journey to your cruise ship. The drive to Whittier on the Seward Highway is one of the most scenic in Alaska. Enjoy views of the Turnagain Arm, a unique body of water that features the highest tidal range in the United States. The motorcoach travels by Girdwood's glacial valley and enters the Chugach National Forest before turning onto the Whittier Access Road. Pass through the Portage Glacier Valley in route to the staging area for the Whittier Tunnel, the longest tunnel in North America. This is a one-way tunnel, shared with the Alaska Railroad, and offers designated times for vehicles to travel in each direction. It provides the only ground access to the port city of Whittier. The motorcoach will go directly to the cruise ship terminal upon arriving in Whittier.
The Park Connection bus line operates the Talkeetna to Whittier transfer only on designated cruise ship days. This route is unique in that it allows visitors to travel directly to their cruise ships from Talkeetna without spending a night in Anchorage. This tour combines our daily “Park to Park” service with our Whittier cruise transfer service which operates on days that cruise ships are in Whittier. This trip departs from the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and requires a bus transfer while at the Dena'ina Civic Center. The motorcoach drops passengers off at the Whittier Cruise Ship Terminal.
