Anchorage to Whittier
Bus Anchorage to Whittier
The motorcoach trip from Anchorage to the port city of Whittier takes two hours, covers 60 miles and includes a 2.5 mile long tunnel. Your journey to your cruise ship takes you through the city of Anchorage, past Potter Marsh and along the Turnagain Arm. You travel on the beautiful Seward Highway, designated as a National Scenic Byway. Sightings of wildlife such as sheep, moose and eagles are common. From the highway you can see the glacial valley and ski area located in Girdwood and the old town site of Portage before turning off onto the Whittier access road. You will travel through Portage Glacier Valley in route to the Whittier tunnel. This is a shared tunnel with the Alaska Railroad so there are designated times that vehicles can travel through the tunnel in each direction. Once through the tunnel, the motorcoach will go directly to the cruise ship terminal.
The Park Connection bus line travels between Anchorage and Whittier only on designated cruise ship days and offers an economical alternative to the transfers offered by the cruise companies. The motorcoach leaves from the Dena'ina Civic Center in downtown Anchorage and drops off at the Whittier Cruise terminal. This afternoon departure from Anchorage to Whittier connects with our “Park to Park” route that originates in Denali.
